Is Driving Through a Parking Lot Stall in Washington State Illegal?
Oh, trust me, we've all been there. You hop in your car after going grocery shopping or something and have a clear shot in front of you as there's nobody parked in the stall in front of you. Sure, you could just back out, but that would involve backing up. Much easier to just drive through, avoiding the other cars and carry on with your day. But is doing this illegal? Here's what I dug up.
Is driving through a parking lot stall in Washington State illegal?
Washington laws don't seem to indicate one way or another. I did find this article from ctvnews in Canada that mentions this particular topic. One of their fans said it's illegal because it could cause a head-on collision if someone is pulling in as you're driving through, but they're not the ones writing the law.
Others in the article chime in saying their opinions, mostly people saying they do it all the time without harm.
For Washington state I was looking up parking lot laws and found some common-sense information from a law firm who mentions the basics like not parking near a fire hydrant and stuff like that but nothing specific to driving through a parking stall.
Of course, you risk crashing into someone trying to pull in and then you're in that awkward situation where you have to make eye contact with the other driver, semi-apologizing for being inconvenient.
So when it comes to Washington state law on if it's illegal or not, it doesn't seem to be. You won't get arrested for it but definitely use caution.
