The Boardman coal-powered plant owned by Portland General Electric is scheduled to close next year. With a mandate from the state to produce half its electricity from renewables like wind and solar, the company recently announced it will build a giant wind/solar and battery storage plant in Morrow County!

To be located a little north of Lexington, OR, the plant will generate huge amounts of electricity (enough for over 100,000 homes) with wind power in spring, solar power in summer, and then immense storage capacity.

The project should hire 300 construction workers to build it, and then 10 full-time employees to maintain it.
