Benton County Officials Got Scammed Out of $$ Thousands

It can happen to me, it can happen to you, it happened to them. I guess scammers don't just target individuals. Hey, why not go for an agency that has a bunch of money!? Well, a scammer did just that to Benton County officials when they got an email about updating the billing info for a contractor that was doing work for the county. Only the legitimate contractor did not request this billing change. Benton County officials didn't know that and sent nearly three quarters of a million dollars into the scammer's account. Fortunately, the account was frozen and the scammer appears to have gotten away with only about $23,000.
