Cam Newton Facing Questions for Ripping Fan Sign Down
Cam Newton is under fire this morning for ripping down a fan sign at the game versus Greenbay last Sunday. The sign in question was being held over the front rail of the stadium and was made by a Greenbay fan that said "North Carolina Cheesehead". Sometime during warm ups Cam ran over to the sign and ripped it down out of the fans hands.
There is a rule that is posted on the Carolina Panther webpage that states "No banners or flags expressing support of visiting teams may be affixed to or displayed on any surface. Hand held signs or posters that are in compliance with the balance of this policy are acceptable." However, it is obvious that the fans are holding the sign they made in the picture above, therefore they were not breaking the rules as stated.
The fan was told that the sign was destroyed and that it would not be returned to him. The value of the sign is greater then $500 so technically under Carolina State law it is Petit larceny and is defined as the theft of property or services valued at $2,000 or less. Petit larceny in South Carolina is punishable by a sentence of imprisonment of no more than 30 days, or by a fine not to exceed $1,000.
Although, nothing is going to happen to the Panthers golden boy, that is for sure!
