Wednesday, two people in a truck are lucky to be alive after the bed was torn off their vehicle by a train in eastern Benton County.

Deputies report the truck was crossing tracks at an unlighted railroad crossing on Cushman Road near Toothacre Road when the train blasted the vehicle, completely ripping off the bed and everything behind the cab. The crossing is marked, but no lights or dropdown barriers.

Deputies say an unnamed 35-year-old woman was driving, her 45-year-old male passenger was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.  Officials say inattention was the reason for the crash, as the driver did not see the train coming until it was almost too late. They said she was not paying attention while crossing the tracks.

No one on the train was injured. The train hit the truck hard enough it knocked it at least 20 feet from the railbed after the collision. No word if any citations issued to driver.
