Horrible Stench Confuses Richland Friday Morning

I smelled it climbing into my car a little before 8 a.m. I thought an animal had pooped in my newly-turned dirt beds. It was so strong I thought I must have stepped in it... but my shoes were clean. Then I got to work, hopped on Facebook, and realized I wasn't the only one!

One person said it smelled like "a dump backed into the sewer, which overflowed into a paper mill owned by skunks."

Another said they thought it was the "digester at the potato plant on the Vantage highway."

Others assumed neighbors with dogs, as I did.

A co-worker thinks farmers were spraying their fields.

A few jokesters insisted it was their boss's fart or a leak at Hanford.
