There is something about living close to the water that we crave as humans. Most of us anyway.

I find being on or near the beach calming. I love to watch the waves roll in and behave differently with each one. I love the sound the waves make and I love the warm sand on a summer day.

How to find an affordable property close to the beach to live?

Well, that is a little more difficult. But, it's ac not as hard as you might think. Plenty of ocean views or oceanfront property is for sale in Washington State.

Many West side beach towns aren't very populated

Here is a list of some places you might find affordable homes for sale or rent.

I've been to many of these small towns they are gorgeous and quaint with so much to love about them. Even if you aren't in the market to buy or rent anywhere on the coast, you may want to visit sometime!

LOOK: See America's 50 Best Beach Towns

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
