Yesterday I was standing in line at Costco and I noticed someone with one of those big flat carts stacked (about 4 feet high) with at least 40 cases of bottled water.

I figured he may have a big Labor Day Party planned or a camping excursion. Or perhaps he stocks his garage with ample water in case of emergency? Or maybe he'd rather open a refrigerated bottle of water rather than fill up a glass from the faucet and add Ice.

Why are plastic water bottles still allowed in Washington State

We've become so used to the convenience of bottled water. But, have we all become numb to the damage our 'convenience' causes our planet?

Even if a person carefully separates plastics when throwing them away and puts them in the recycle bins, Does that ever really get recycled? It's debatable.

I recalled a documentary I saw years ago about an area in the ocean the size of Texas that was a floating dump of garbage.

It makes my heart sick that we are not better at controlling the amount of waste we fill our oceans and lands with.

Alternative packaging is now available for many products

I can't personally wrap my head around why we haven't STOPPED the production of those plastic water bottles as well as a myriad of other plastic containers that are contaminating our groundwater and oceans with toxic elements. And we wonder why so many people suffer from Cancer.

How is this still allowed in our country? If I were President, I'd immediately Stop all production of plastic containers and figure out how to deal with the fallout afterward.

How can I help stop the production of plastic

Seriously, how long will it take people in government to stop talking about it and just STOP it!

So what can we personally do? Well, we can stop buying those bottles of water, milk detergent or dish soap. And anything else that comes in plastic containers.

We can ask ourselves "Is there a version that comes in a biodegradable container?" And we can fill our stainless steel water bottles for reuse instead of buying bottled water in plastic containers.

Plastic bags are another issue. And I'm guilty of forgetting my re-usable bags at grocery stores too. It's such a small thing we can all do to help, yet it seems so hard to retrain myself to grab those cloth bags when heading into the store. I am so frustrated with myself but again...I'm re-committing.

I've stopped buying plastic jugs for my laundry detergent. I use dissolvable soap sheets.  I'm guilty of purchasing other items that come in plastic like shampoo & conditioner etc. But, I'm re-commiting right now to change that. If things aren't sold in cartons, I'm going to pass.

I'm finding alternatives for hair care products too. Let me know what you find that could be helpful. Together we can spread the word and perhaps inevitably help save the lives of people, animals, and ultimately our PLANET!

Some people will dismiss this..and I get it, we all have so much to think about. But what do we expect will happen if we do nothing? Will the garbage miraculously go away?

It will only get worse. People and animals are getting ill from the toxicity of it all. We spend billions on cancer treatments yet we are polluting our foods and bodies with cancer-causing elements daily.

Household Plastic We Can Give Up

More and more we are trying to move away from plastic in our lives. It is so important for the environment that we reduce the amount of plastic we use in the Hudson Valley. These house hold items could easily be replaced with an item that is more eco-friendly.
