Nasty House Flies in Washington State: When Will They Die?
It seems like Fall Flies are the worst. It's like they've gained strength and weight all summer, feasting on too many outdoor picnics. They are weighty and noisy and more annoying than ever in the Fall.
I keep thinking it's about time for them to die off! But do they die in the Fall and Winter?

I did a bit of research as I was swatting away at one intrusive downright mean one that was getting some kind of joy out of landing on me repeatedly and dive bomb buzzing around my head while I'm trying to work today!
Flies can hibernate and survive winter
I was disturbed to hear that flies actually hibernate and survive the cold winter months. Gross right? Ugh!
I hate flies about as much as I hate Ticks.
Hang flypaper strips around the area.
One of the best ways to keep your home fly-free is by hanging flypaper strips around the area. These are highly effective ways of catching them, but a lot of people have never used them. They are actually widely available, so look out for them in supermarkets or order them online.
The best places to hang them are in the kitchen, perhaps near the door or around the hob, or in the living room, near the windows. Some people find hanging them from the curtain rod a good option.
I have horses so I not only have a normal amount of house flies but also a huge amount of flies near and around the barn.
I find Fly strips help somewhat. But for me, my best remedy is to keep doors closed or screens tightly intact. I have a fly swatter on every end table too!
