It was almost seven years ago, that we heard that Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key were teaming up with Henry Selick, best known as the director of A Nightmare Before Christmas on a stop-motion animated movie. To put that into context: At the time the movie was first revealed, Peele’s Get Out was still two years away.

Finally, in 2022, it looks like the movie is going to see the light of day. Look, I know stop-motion is a time-consuming process, but this took a long time to make.

The film is called Wendell & Wild and in addition to voicing one of the two title characters, Peele also wrote the film. Key plays the other lead and the announcement video below from Netflix, which is releasing the film, reveals the rest of the talented cast including Lyric Ross, Angela Bassett, and James Hong.

Here is the film’s official synopsis:

From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick and Jordan Peele, comes Wendell & Wild, an animated tale about scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele) - who enlist the aid of 13-year-old Kat Elliot - a tough teen with a load of guilt - to summon them to the Land of the Living. But what Kat demands in return leads to a brilliantly bizarre and comedic adventure like no other, an animated fantasy that defies the law of life and death, all told through the handmade artistry of stop motion.

Even if the storyline doesn’t do it for you, you have to admit: The combination of the filmmakers behind A Nightmare Before Christmas and Get Out sounds amazing. How could you not want to see what they make together? Wendell & Wild premieres on Netflix in October.
