Mental Health Worker Helps Police With Bat Swinging Car Attacker

Fortunately, the man, and nobody else, were injured.

Late Tuesday night police were called to the intersection of 4th and Vancouver for a report of an agitated man, swinging a baseball bat at cars. He allegedly attempted to open the door of a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light.

Fortunately, the motorist's doors were locked and the man did not gain entry. When police arrived they secured the area, and the man complied with commands.  He put down the bat, and officers learned he was having a mental health crisis.

A ride along mental health professional was brought in and the man was able to be taken to a crisis center to get some immediate help.

The mental health ride a long program was started a couple of years ago, where mental health workers are available throughout the day and night, and are called to incident scenes such as this. It's called the Mobile Outreach Team.
