Musicians To Honor Amazing Drummer Alan White In Seattle
This Sunday at the Paramount Theater in Seattle musicians from Yes, Heart, Pearl Jam - and other bands you may have heard of - will gather to pay tribute to legendary drummer Alan White.
White passed away in May of this year, after a short illness.
Why is Alan White Famous?
A Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, White is best known as the drummer for progressive rock band Yes, whose artsy, experimental excursions did not prevent them from having radio hits like "Roundabout," and "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Songs that have played in perpetuity since they made their on-air debut.
White was also a member of The Plastic Ono Band, playing on the John Lennon hit "Instant Karma," and one of the best regarded rock songs of all time: "Imagine." When he told the story, whether in person or on the radio, his delivery was matter of fact. He wasn't bragging, just talking about that thing he once did.. playing drums for a Beatle.
Why is the Musical Tribute to Alan White in Seattle?
Why not in England, where he was born? Because White made the Seattle area his home long ago, raising two children with his wife Gigi. It's where he befriended "Downtown" Joe Bryant from the Bob Rivers radio show, and later Bob himself. And White was a staple at local sports bars, watching Seahawks games with his friends.
