Today is National Women's Day so naturally, I am compelled to tell you about one of the amazing women in my own life. It all started with my mother, the one who gave me life so I could, in return, give life...

She was born a million years ago, long before I could even comprehend what life was like, back when smoking was cool and the average minimum wage was approximately one dollar an hour. That's when this woman brought me into a life that, now seems much simpler. She changed my cloth diapers and used her arm across my chest as a safety harness in the car. She told me if I didn't stop picking my scabs I would be scarred for life and that those french fries would eventually catch up to me if I wasn't careful. Scarred and fluffy, 47 years later I discovered she was right.

I could go on and on and tell you what a loving, caring, thoughtful, most giving mom in the world I have (which I do) but instead, I will tell you what makes me laugh...

Like the time she lost her sunglasses while shopping with my grandma, she came back to the car to find her glasses were missing completely. She remembered putting them on the dash of the car but somehow they were just gone. She tore the car apart, my grandma by her side searching the car feverishly. They were both stumped looking at each other in frustration and disbelief. They were about to give up the scavenger hunt, when my grandmother looked up from her search, stared my mom straight in the eye, and said "wait, do I have them on?" Sure enough, Grandma had them on the entire time.

Or the time she watched me physically take my alternator out of my car, drive to the auto shop, with me and take it in to be tested. When I came out of the shop, holding the alternator in my hand I told her "well, it's not the alternator." She gasped, clutched her hand over her mouth in disbelief, and asked "oh no, that's not the alternator?" Oh, how I love this woman, yes Mom THIS is the alternator but the alternator is not the problem.

She is a very smart woman, she is just an adorable woman, who I cherish very much.

To all the badass women out there, happy national women's day, and thanks mom for making me the badass woman I am today!
