New Alaskan Dinosaur Lived in the Dark, Played in Snow and Walked on 2 Legs

Researchers are very excited about a new dinosaur found in northern Alaska and even gave it an Eskimo name.

People looking for oil on behalf of Shell first discovered dino bones. Thousands have since been dug out. Scientists believe they were a young herd, possibly juveniles, killed all at the same time by something -- maybe a mud slide.

These duck-billed dinosaurs walked mostly on two legs, although could walk on all 4.

Northern Alaska was warmer back then, but due to the shape and angle of Earth it still saw several months of darkness every year.

And even though it was warmer, it likely still snowed, they say.

The name chosen, Ugrunaaluk kuukpikensis, means "Ancient Grazer" in the Inupiat Eskimo language.
