Olivia Newton-John had a string of Top-10 hits, and she toured the Northwest in support of them. The hope of this article is to take you back to a concert you may have attended, or wished you had.

We were able to find four occasions that Olivia Newton-John played in our cities. There may be more, or this could be it. The years represented here are 1976, 1999, 2003, and 2016.

We've found set-lists from Set List.fm, which you can use to put together a playlist and recreate the night's performance (minus stage banter and applause breaks).

Newton-John was going strong in 2015, playing several nights a week in Las Vegas, touring the United States, and traveling overseas. She played at least 79 concerts the following year, one of which was Sunday night, November 13th at Northern Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights, WA (just outside Spokane).

A set-list from that night is not available, but based on other shows from the tour, it was likely the following songs, in this order:

  • Magic
  • Xanadu
  • "Deeper Than the Night"
  • Suddenly
  • "Make a Move on Me"
  • "Have You Never Been Mellow"
  • "Please Mr. Please"

The Inaugural Concert at McCaw Hall, September 29th, 2003

Olivia Newton-John had a couple of things going in 2003. Her "Heartstrings Tour," and "A Night with Olivia Newton-John." The latter may have been reserved for performances with the Symphony. Seattle was fortunate to book Olivia as the first concert at the newly christened McCaw Hall.

According to Seattle Times reviewer Tina Potterf, Newton-John opened with early hit "Have You Never Been Mellow," and closed with three favorites from Grease:

  1. "You're the One That I Want"
  2. "Hopelessly Devoted to You"
  3. "Summer Nights"

  • Spokane Opera House Spokane, WA, August 6th
  • Benaroya Hall, Seattle, WA, August 7th

Set-list information is from December 19th, 1998, but is likely similar:

  • "Age of Reason"
  • "The Phantom of the Opera"
  • "A Little More Love"
  • "This Is the Moment"
  • "Hopelessly Devoted to You"
  • "Every Time You Cry"

The photo above is the cover of Newton-John's 1976 program from Japan. It differs from the U.S. version, but we couldn't find a good quality image of that. Olivia played three dates in the Northwest that year:

  • Spokane Coliseum ("the Boone Street Barn"), March 15th, 1976
  • WSU Performing Arts Coliseum, Pullman, WA, March 16th, 1976
  • Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR, March 17th, 1976

The following set-list was found, but appears to be incomplete (or it was a very short concert):

  1. Please Mr. Please
  2. Lovin' You
  3. Jolene (Dolly Parton cover)
  4. Let It Shine
  5. Have You Never Been Mellow
  6. Let Me Be There

Happy Listening

I'll bet there's songs you forgot about or never heard of on those lists. Go check 'em out. But first, let's look at some behind-the-scenes pics of Olivia in Eagle, Idaho.
