Portland Garbage Truck Driver Who Ran Over Man, Severed His Leg, Punished
A Portland garbage truck driver made an illegal turn at 5:50 in the morning. He struck a pedestrian crossing the street and severed his leg above the knee!
A Multnomah County court sentenced the driver to community service and suspended his commercial license for a year (plus a small fine).
The 44-year-old victim and his wife want $37 million from the waste company.
The company says the driver is 100% at fault and he should be on the hook for the $37 million. The court hasn't decided on that yet, but since he was performing his duties during the accident he should be covered by his employer's insurance, right? Unless maybe he's a contractor? It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
