Yes, we hear ads for pot shops in our region on the radio. Slowly but surely, it's spreading. But this would take it to a whole new level.

Congressional Democrat wants 'nationa'l approval of pot ads for radio and TV

Inside Radio is like the "Bible" of the broadcasting industry for radio, and to a degree, TV where applicable.  They are reporting Wednesday a Congressional House Rep wants to see national approval for cannabis ads on radio and TV  According to Inside Radio:

"Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) has introduced a bill that would permit radio and television stations to accept advertising for legal cannabis products if the station is licensed in a state that permits the advertising of medical or adult-use cannabis."

They go on to say:

"The proposed Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Advertising Act is similar to a provision tucked inside the proposed Federal Communications Commission budget for fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. But unlike the budget maneuver under which the ad moratorium would only last for one-year, Luján’s bill would permanently remove any doubt about whether stations could accept cannabis advertising."

It is also believed this would open the window for national groups, producers or ad agencies to get their pot advertising on national airwaves as well.

However, pot shops themselves along with other marijuana-related industries will still find taking care of their profits to be difficult. Because pot is still illegal at the Federal level, financial institutions are not in a hurry to accept it.  If a bank or credit union wants to take pot money, they have to go through an exhaustive annual process of monitoring what is still referred to as "drug money" in the financial industry. Many financial institutions say it's not worth it to avoid what is considered a form of 'money laundering' for the drug industry.

If this were to happen, suppose Cheech and Chong would be lured out of semi-retirement to do TV ads, dude?
