Growing up, I hated camping. The whole concept of unplugging from TV, video games, and the aches of daily life just to set up a tent in some gross campground did not tickle my fancy one bit. Public campgrounds are not the ideal place to take a shower or use the restroom, either.

I'm willing to venture I was closed-minded. After all, we do live in the Pacific Northwest; an area most people are proud to call home and love to explore. After learning that I could camp where they shot a climactic scene in Top Gun: Maverick, I started to do some research. Buying an RV outright was just out of the question. Even if we could afford it, we live in a condo so where could we even store it?

There's a website that acts like an Airbnb for RVs.

So, you want to take on the open world and discover yourself as you enjoy our beautiful and natural home. A stray hair finds you looking up how much one would cost you to buy. If you know your RVs, motorhomes, and campers, you won't be surprised by this number I'm about to throw out. Newbies like me will shudder at the truth.

Used RVs could cost more than buying a car.

It's not hard to find old cars for less than $5,000; so how much would an RV built around 1999 cost? Between $15,000 to over $20,000. For the same price as most decent hotels, you can just rent an RV from a private party near you.

RVshare makes glamping affordable for the rest of us.

I had a co-worker that loved to go on "glamping trips." I asked her all the time what the point of camping was if she was just going to sleep in her RV and watch movies. It wasn't until recently that I understood exactly what the point was. We live in a beautiful state with gorgeous trees, mountains, and rivers. Why should we have to enjoy the sights and sounds of Washington in a tent?

I dream of camping near Mt. Rainier National  Park and taking in the extraordinary views of one of Washington's most fabled volcanoes. There are several campsites near Mt. Rainier and some of them specialize in RVs, which seems to be the way to go. RVshare has several listings, all from normal people like you and me. You can either schedule a pick-up closer to where you're going or rent one in Tri-Cities or wherever you may be embarking from. If you'd like to fill your summer with travel but don't want to break the bank, this could be a solid option.
