Local police are warning people about a thief that has been running away with peoples phones and stealing them after meeting up with people trying to sell them on Facebook.

In multiple cases, the victims posted their phones for sale on Facebook and were contacted by the same man.

Both victims also met up with the man on W Sylvester St and N 10th Ave to sell their phones. When they handed the phones to the man for him to check out, he waits until the victim is not paying attention and then runs off with the phone.

A person of interest has been identified but no arrests have been made.

Pasco police want people to know they have "Safe Exchange Zone parking spots" right outside the police station if you are making an exchange or sale to someone you do not know.

BEWARE!!! Over the last two days, two people have found themselves victims of theft when they believed they were meeting up with someone interested in buying their cell phones. In both cases, the victims posted their phones in the Facebook Marketplace and were contacted by the same male. They both met up with the male in the area of W Sylvester St and N 10th Ave and after handing their phones to the male to look at, he immediately ran off through the alley without paying a dime. A person of interest has been identified and the investigation is ongoing. If you are the cell phone bandit and are just misunderstood and happened to merely forget to leave the money two days in a row, please pay up, cheapskate!

As a reminder, it’s a good idea to take someone along with you when meeting up with an interested buyer. Also, y’all are welcome to use these nice, conveniently located Safe Exchange Zone parking spots located in the Pasco Police Dept parking lot for such engagements!
