Just before 10 am, Dispatch received a 911 call from Wanda Rand, the mother of the pregnant woman, who told the communications officer that her daughter was going into labor.

The call went out to Grant County dispatchers and state troopers.

The women then exited Interstate 90 at Road U Southeast and stopped on the frontage road. As the dispatcher gave instructions to Rand, she delivered Maria Medrano's baby girl in the back of the vehicle.

Shortly after, Washington State Patrol Troopers Nick Palmer and Taylor Scott arrived on the scene where they found the baby unresponsive. The dispatcher gave instructions to the troopers and Palmer was able to get the baby to breathe and cry just before medics arrived.

Both Medrano and her newborn baby girl were transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

At last report, the newborn, named Betty Morgan was doing well in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a Spokane hospital.

All involved are to be commended for their heroic actions, from the 911 dispatchers to Grandma Wanda Rand, to the WSP Troopers and medics.

What a wonderful display of TEAMWORK.

And, the miraculous story Maria Medrano can tell regarding the birth of baby Betty will be well received.

Well done!
