There are many strange and stupid laws out there. Some will make you scratch your head, others will make you laugh out loud. One I've remembered since childhood is that "in Vermont, it's illegal to whistle underwater." The absurdity of that "law" always tickled me.

Examples of U.S. Laws That Make No Sense

  • In South Carolina, you must be of legal age - 18 - to play pinball.
  • In Tennessee, it's against the law to use a lasso to catch a fish. As you do.
  • In Utah, it is illegal to detonate a nuclear weapon. So make sure yours has the safety on.
  • In Illinois, animals can serve jail time. A shoplifting monkey already has.
  • In Florida, you must keep your clothes ON to bathe. At least, that used to be the case. They've come to their senses and nothing weird ever goes on in Florida anymore.

Weird Washington Laws

  • In Seattle, it's against the law to carry a concealed weapon that is over 6 ft. in length. Read that again.
  • Also from Seattle: it's illegal to set another person's property on fire. Without that person's permission, that is. Seriously.
  • In Lynden, it is forbidden to drink and dance in the same establishment.
  • In Everett, it is illegal to display a hypnotized person in a store window.
  • In Spokane, it was once illegal to interrupt a religious meeting by having a horse race. Today you can race all the horses you want.

In Skamania County, a law was passed in 1969, making it illegal to kill Bigfoot. Killing Bigfoot, or "a" Bigfoot would be a felony, punishable by 5 years in prison. The law has been amended to designate Bigfoot as an endangered species.

Why is that Washington's strangest law? I don't want to spoil it for you. Ask your parents.
