In a posting from the Kennewick Police on their Facebook page, KPD explained how the drunk driver hit the KPD police cruiser. Here are the details of the incident as filed by the Kennewick Police Department:

This morning just before 4:00 am, officers were dispatched to a reckless traffic complaint in the area of Kennewick Avenue and Olympia Street. The reporting party advised dispatch there was a vehicle occupied by a female at the stoplight who had sat through two light cycles and did not go when the light turned green.

Officers arrived and contacted the vehicle. The 21-year old female driver backed into the patrol car which was positioned behind her with lights activated. The driver struck the patrol car’s push bumpers causing minor damage. No officers were in the vehicle at the time because they were attempting to speak with the driver when she reversed.

The driver was booked into the Benton County Jail under the suspicion of driving under the influence. You can read more details about the arrest here. The good news is that the driver is off the street and the police cruiser received minor damage.
