The entire country, indeed much of the globe, is experiencing a tremendous heatwave. For those without air-conditioning, and those without a home, it can be deadly.

A press release from the City of Spokane says, "Children and seniors, those experiencing homelessness, people with chronic illnesses, and people who take certain medications, such as blood pressure medications and even antihistamines, are especially at risk for problems with high summer temperatures."

Therefore, it's important to let our friends and neighbors know about 4 Spokane libraries acting as  "cooling centers." And the libraries are expanding their hours to offer relief until 8pm, when temps start dropping again.

Please read on, even if it's only so you can spread the word.

The total capacity for the four library locations is 1,784. If more space is needed, the city says they will expand to additional locations.

The city's press release makes it clear that you are invited to use the libraries, saying "the community is encouraged to take advantage of these facilities and their amenities," along with a reminder to check on your neighbors.
