Last week a couple of men decided to street race in downtown Pendleton. They accidentally hit an elderly woman in a Durango sending her labrador flying through the windshield. Could a safety harness on the dog helped? The answer depends on which one, scientists say.

After a thorough investigation using crash-test dummies modeled after dogs, the researchers found all but one pet harness was worthless. They either broke or just didn't work.

Because a hard crash will turn a small dog into a flying projectile with 300 pounds of force, restraining a dog in the car is actually quite important.
