Washington Women Drink More Than Average, Is It Their Men?

Alcohol abuse is no laughing matter, but I couldn't help but giggle when I heard Seattle women drink more than average and many are blaming Seattle men!

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington says women in King County, Washington, rank among the top 10 percent in the nation for consumption of alcohol. They also rank in the top quarter nationally for binge drinking. The county may be seeing the fastest increase of women abusing alcohol in the country.

The study also suggested San Juan and Garfield counties see the most alcohol consumption in Washington from both genders.

The UW prof believes a downturn in the economy and the emboldening and empowerment of women explains the rise.

Bloggers are having fun with San Juan and Garfield counties making the list, saying people drink more there because there's nothing to do in the winter.

Intrigued by the question, several media outlets performed informal surveys and came to the conclusion women may drink more in Seattle because the social scene is harder. Translation: Seattle men are boring dates and women drink to lower their expectations! 

Is it true? Probably not; just a funny theory, but I just had to share it!
