My wife and I did an amazing trip along the Oregon Coastline last week for vacation, all the way to Cresent City California, and on the trip, she took some incredible pictures.

My wife likes to rib me that I love using her pictures in my radio station articles and she's not wrong and she deserves credit where credit is due.

The good news is that if you are an amateur photographer like my wife, those photos can now be worth thousands.

A contest is underway that celebrates the amateur shutter-bug through the National Park Foundation.

It's a contest where your photos could be thousands, maybe up to $10,000 with many more other cash prices available.

You can take your photos and submit them with only one catch - the photos have to be favorite views, moments, and adventures in the national parks and public lands.

We just did Crater Lake (which counts) and I'm sure you have many other photos on your phone or camera that could count towards this contest.

Here are some categories according to the website that they are looking for:

  1. Adventure & Outdoor Recreation Share photos of your favorite activities and adventures highlighting the diversity of exhilarating moments for all that can be experienced on federal lands and waters across the country – from fishing to hiking to skating and more.
  2. Family, Friends & Fun Featuring people, of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, who love to adventure with on public lands and water.
  3. Historical & Cultural Spotlighting the multi-faceted and multi-cultural stories of the United States, both struggles and triumphs – from national historic sites and monuments to battlefields and military parks to cultural celebrations.
  4. Scenic, Seasons & Landscapes Capture scenic vistas and sweeping landscapes - fall foliage, forests, winter wonderlands, flowers, mountains, deserts, canyons, lakes, seashores, rivers and more.
  5. Urban Playgrounds Some of our most exciting sites are in, or just a stone's throw from, America's biggest cities, providing unique opportunities for urban residents (and visitors) to experience the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of our federal lands and waters.
  6. Wildlife Take a walk on the wild side with photos of the incredibly diverse array of plants and animals that call federal lands and waters home. Remember to keep your distance and stay safe!

Entering the contest is free and your photo could've been taken from 2010 and 2020 to be considered.

It's the National Park Foundation "Best Of The Decade" photo contest so a photo from a past year works as well.
