Dangerous Fire on Highway 182 Sparked by Car Rollover
A brush fire broke out along Highway 182 in Richland last night, near the Queensland shopping center. The blaze began sometime before 9pm.
The Richland Fire Dept. and Franklin Co. Fire were there quickly, and had the dangerous flames under control by 11pm, though smoke remained in the air for some time.
No official explanation announced for the fire as of this writing, but a Police Officer told KNDO/KNDU that a car rollover was the spark that lit it. No information available on the occupants of that vehicle.
There are reports that homes in Jason Loop may have experienced some damage to property, but not the houses themselves. Onlookers told KAPP-KVEW TV that Jason Loop homeowners were asked to evacuate.
Flames came alarmingly close to the Church of the Nazarene and an RV sales park.
UPDATE: According to the Tri-City Herald, a building did burn, "possibly a shop."
No injuries caused by the fire were reported at this time.
