Richland Joins International Women’s Day Celebration with Rally Tonight
March 8th has been celebrated International Women's Day since 1975, but this is the first year of "A Day Without A Woman" strike. The meaning behind the strike is to "act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity." To participate in the strike women are staying home from work (if possible), wearing red clothing, and/or refraining from shopping online or in person. Also, rallies and marches are happening around the country, and the world, to support the cause.
In the Tri-Cities, a Rally and Celebration is happening at John Dam Plaza from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is " dedicated to positive action for the betterment of our country. We focus on contributions to civil society, community-building, and legislative issues." The rally is free and open to all who want to attend.
